InnerSource Anti-patterns

Tom Sadler will discuss how this is a great community for practitioners to share their approaches to InnerSource, success stories, and patterns that have been observed to work across different organisations.

But it’s also important to talk about common failures, mistakes, and roadblocks – what you might call ‘anti-patterns’. This talk will cover some of these anti-patterns, based on common themes in discussions with the InnerSource Commons community, and on the ground experience. We will also explore some controversial areas, where adopting certain practices could be a double edged sword, or high risk, and only work in particular scenarios. People newer to InnerSource will learn to spot these anti-patterns and deal with them effectively when they start to arise. Experienced InnerSourcerers may find these stories familiar, and provide a jumping off point for new InnerSource Commons content.
