InnerSource Commons Social Media and Communications Manager

InnerSource and the InnerSource Commons are on the rise. InnerSource is moving up the Gartner hype cycle and was listed first in the 2023 top technology trends. Nearly daily, we see new people join the InnerSource Commons Slack, which now numbers well over 3,000 registered participants.

The InnerSource Commons needs a Social Media and Communications manager to amplify and publicize the message of InnerSource both in and out of the community. Through timely, clear, and engaging communication and visuals, you will generate excitement for, expansion of and participation in InnerSource and the InnerSource Commons.

This is a part-time, remote role with (increased hours in the months leading up to and after the InnerSource Summit).

Requirements

  • Be familiar with the InnerSource Commons in terms of our community, practices, interests, trends, and goals.

  • Engage with community members on our slack channel and at Marketing Working Group meetings in relation to our marketing activities.

  • Create and format engaging, branded assets for the InnerSource Commons.

  • Use the knowledge of the community and its goals to design communication content and schedules to increase engagement in and achievement of those goals.

  • Direct management of all social media and communication channels in preparing and posting content there.

  • Interview member organisations and create Case Studies to be published on the website and promoted on all channels.

  • Continue our regular promotional monthly and annual cycle of announcements and news (e.g. Newsletter, sponsor engagement, Board announcements, summit promotion, the annual State of InnerSource Report).

  • Show impact through tracking, reporting, and improving our external engagement metrics.

    We’re looking for someone with

  • Platform Expertise: In-depth knowledge of platforms like LinkedIn, X, Mastodon, MailChimp (and other platforms relevant to our audience) and the ability to tailor content appropriately.

  • Expertise in Content Creation: Ability to create engaging, clear, and visually appealing content to share updates and educate our audience.

  • Brand Voice: Ability to develop and maintain a consistent tone and voice that reflects the InnerSource community’s values and mission.

  • Content Calendar Management: Strong organizational skills to plan and schedule campaigns, events, or announcements.

  • Analytics and Reporting: Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, Hootsuite etc. Buffer to monitor engagement metrics, measure performance, and refine strategies.

  • Strong Community Engagement Skills: Strong ability to foster relationships with contributors and other members in our community.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Ability to work with our global InnerSource Marketing Team and community members to drive our presence on social media.

    Desirable Attributes:

  • Understanding of culture and community: An understanding of InnerSource and/or open-source culture and/or experience of engaging with similar communities.

  • Proficiency in GitHub: Ability to manage issues, collaborate on website content and review pull requests.

  • Proficiency in visual content creation: Ability to create design using Canva and other tools and the ability to edit videos when required.

  • AI aware. Leverage the latest in AI assistance to create assets of high-quality and low cost and time.
